Bug HOTel
by Ariel, Blue, Ozilline, Samantha, Skyler and Zachary
Some insects don't have homes in Forest Grove. A bug hotel is a way to help animals like spiders, ants, flies, beetles, bees, snails and other crawly things. It gives them shelter to give them better home.
What materials will you need?
· Old lumber to build a shelf and a roof
· Hammers and nails
· Saws to cut the boards to the right length
· Electric drill
· Tape measure
· Acorns, nuts or seeds
· Twigs and pinecones
· Rocks
· Hollow bamboo
· Wood chips
· Rolled up paper, cardboard
· Leaves, straw
First, we got an old bookshelf.
We built a roof over it so they won't get wet.
Put it in your garden. The bugs will help the environment.
Then, we gathered materials to put inside it.
We used sticks, pinecones, tubes of cardboard, small rocks, bamboo. You can even put mason bee homes (check it out!)
Leave it there, and see if you can find any creatures inside! Show your friends! If there are too many bugs, you can make another one.
